High resistance wires for special heating applications normally require helical wrap (kernel construction) of high specific resistance alloy wires over a glass fibre cord, insulated with high quality insulating materials like PVC, PTFE etc. This way more length of wire can be placed per unit length, reducing the Surface load thereby increasing the power dissipation capacity per meter (linear W/m).
For certain applications, high linear wattage/m and low temperature co-efficient of resistance are the most important attributes. For others, temperature stability, good flexibility and resistance to environmental factors is more significant.
